AEPC Chairman Meets Hon’ble Tamil Nadu Chief Minister; Submits Memorandum for Apparel Export Growth
Dr. A. Sakthivel, Chairman of AEPC & IKFA, along with Thiru K.M. Subramanian, EC Member, AEPC and President, Tiruppur Exporters’ Association (TEA), met Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru C. Joseph Vijay, in Chennai on 29 May 2026 and submitted a memorandum seeking support for the growth of Tamil Nadu’s apparel industry and achievement of the USD 15 Billion apparel export target by 2030.

A delegation led by AEPC Chairman Dr. A. Sakthivel met Hon’ble Vice President of India Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan Ji and submitted a representation seeking removal of the existing 11% import duty on cotton to support the growth of India’s apparel and textile sector.

Sakthivel, along with a delegation from the apparel industry, met Hon’ble Union Minister of Commerce & Industry Shri Piyush Goyal Ji, Hon’ble Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan Ji, and Hon’ble Union Minister of Textiles Shri Giriraj Singh Ji to discuss the urgent need for reduction of cotton import duty from 11% to 0%.
